Some documents not uploaded to IFW

One of our listserv members reports:

We e-file a new application in Patentcenter. There should be 18 documents listed in IFW. Instead there are only four documents listed in IFW. You can look in Private PAIR or in Patentcenter, either place only four documents in IFW. This is EBC ticket number 1-695641646. They found the missing 14 documents. But they loaded the drawings into Score twice! I don't know why they did that.... more »

Patent Center should have an Address Book

One of our listserv members writes: The process of populating an Application Data Sheet should be helped by provision of an Address Book. To see this look at the Address Book that WIPO provided in PCT-SAFE more than fifteen years ago. The idea is that the filer can populate his or her address book. Once the address book is successfully populated with information that is known to be correct, then the filer can with a mouse... more »

Patent Center should reveal application status better

One lineserv member writes:

There are many things that Palm reveals to people inside of the USPTO, that PAIR and Patentcenter do not reveal to applicants. Here are some of those things that Patentcenter should reveal to applicants.

On the Application Data tab, Patentcenter should display a "yes" or "no" as to whether the application is "special".

User logged out early without notice

One of our listserv members reports that the "signed-in" status in Patentcenter disappears abruptly and without notice, long before the end of the usual 30-minute forced logout.

PAIR has two modes — "Public PAIR" and "Private PAIR". EFS-Web has two modes as well, a signed-in mode and a not-signed-in mode. So it is more or less to be expected that the USPTO developers of Patentcenter set it up so that there is a signed-in... more »

Larger character limit than 50 characters for fillable fields

When filling in any fillable fields in Patent Center's web-based forms, there is a 50 character limit. Some of the companies for which I file applications have company name lengths longer than 50 characters, so I cannot use many of the web fillable forms (ADS, Issue Fee payment forms, etc.) any time I would have to type the company name into these online forms, for example as the Applicant name, or assignee name. Instead,... more »

Web-based forms render into IFW in color and gray scale

Patentcenter does not preserve the computer-readable characters entered by the filer. Instead, and I am not making this up, Patentcenter flattens the characters into images which go into IFW. When Patentcenter flattens the character into images, it does it in gray scale! This ensures that when the flattened image gets loaded into IFW, it will get halftoned, and thus will get blurred. This makes it more likely that the... more »

Add Company/Firm Administrator Role and Functions

As firms and companies are creating individual logins for each user, it would be great to see some functionality around managing those logins at an organizational level. Things like the following:

1. Allow users to associate their personal account with an entity account (allowing an administrator to manage relationships on their behalf).

2. Build account relationships in bulk between users and fee payment methods (one-to-many,... more »

Leveraging Text (DOCX)

"This document contains multiple application parts" errors

In a trial ".docx" filing of a pair of patent applications, we received several instances of the above "This document contains multiple application parts" error, flagged as a fatal error, all for the Specification part. (The Claims and Abstract sections were apparently acceptable.) Needless to say, we eventually filed both of these .pdf.

None of these errors indicated what specifically triggered this error, so what... more »

Abridged File Wrapper Option

In the Documents listing for an application, there are checkboxes to allow selection of individual documents for download. There is the option to select or deselect ALL checkboxes at once.

It would be a great feature to add to have additional buttons that would allow the user to select checkboxes for all documents except NPL, or perhaps all documents except NPL, search listings, and other generally non-interesting documents.... more »

One of our listserv members requests: PatentCenter should have an option to input any customer number (including ones not associated with filer/filer's firm) as Fee Address in web-based Form 85B

This is Patentcenter Feature Request FR15 in the PatentCenter Feature Request web page maintained by the PatentCenter listserv at https://patentcenter-tickets.oppedahl.com/patentcenter-feature-requests/.
