PDF Preview Needs Work

In EFS, when you click on an uploaded document, it would bring it up in a separate window or tab of the default browser using whatever PDF plugin you had.  In Patent Center, it instead brings it up in a pop-up that overlays part of the submission webpage.  The old way was better for at least the following reasons:

a)  You can only bring up one document at a time in the new system, forcing the user to wait for each document... more »

Often need to refresh after logging in trending idea

Often in response to a user properly logging in to Patent Center, Patent Center returns its home page in a non-logged-in state.  Each time that happens, it is then necessary for the user to refresh the page to force Patent Center to return its home page in a logged-in state.  It would be great if the developer could fix this glitch.  Thanks.

Permalinks to applications - should avoid returning blank screen trending idea

Patent Center conveniently uses a standard URL format for patent applications.  The URL structure is https://patentcenter.uspto.gov/#!/applications/XXXXXXXX, where XXXXXXXX is the application number.  That URL points to the application-data page of the specified application.  This permalink can be really useful.

Unfortunately, however, if a user attempts to use that link structure to access an application number for... more »

IdeaScale should not always require 2-factor authentication trending idea

It would be great if IdeaScale could prompt the user to allow it to remember a user's personal computer or browser, to avoid the need to input 2-factor authentication every time IdeaScale is accessed.  Or better yet, don't timeout the user's login at all on a trusted computer.  As the IdeaScale system is a platform for all interested persons to share ideas, there is no need for heightened account security.

The 2-FA setting... more »

New Application Filing

When filing a new application the information (title, inventor, type of application, file number) does not show up at the type of the screen until the very end.  This isn't helpful as you can fix a typo or if you have accidentally picked the wrong type of application until you get to the very end and then you have to start the application all over.

App Search Disparity b/t Patent Center and Private PAIR trending idea

I endeavored to make the same application search inquiry on Patent Center and Private PAIR.  The search is routinely performed to check for recent status updates, including Office Actions which have been counted but not yet mailed.  Unfortunately, though the search inquiry entered was the same, the results yielded on both platforms were not.  The Private PAIR search return was clearly more thorough in that the results... more »

Manage Customer Numbers

I don't understand why sponsored staff cannot add/remove attorneys/agents associated with the firm customer number.  You don't need to be an attorney/agent to have a customer number so why do you have to be one to remove/add them.  I am a Director and the fact that I have to ask those underneath me to make the changes because I'm not a registered attorney/agent is insulting.  The gentlemen I spoke with at the EBC said... more »

PatentCenter vs ePCT -- contrasting design philosophies

Two things happened in the last 48 hours that come together.

First, I wanted to look at old bugs/requests.  I recall looking at a LONG list of issues in summer or fall 2020.  They're gone now.

Second, last week, the following conversation occurred on one of the email lists.   A attorney (indicated "user 1" via '>') had made an error, and the PTO's software hadn't caught it. Then the PTO's humans were so attached to... more »

In Patent Center, nomenclature "application" vs "submission"

The nomenclature throughout PatentCenter is wrong and therefore confusing. The words "application" and "submission" are used by humans with two very specific and consistent definitions. Patent Center goofs it up. To humans (especially lawyers):

* An "application" is the thing that starts with filing a new application, has a serial number of the form xx/xxx,xxx, and persists for some years through multiple office actions,... more »
