Document Types for Hague Applications need updating

Just handled my first prosecution action in the US as a Hague designated state for a design application. In submitting documents, we found that the document types that you can assign to uploaded documents in Patent Center in such applications are very restricted, and do not include amendments, specification, claim, IDS, NPL, etc.

In EFS, these options are all available. Moreover, these are the sorts of documents that... more »

Make Workbench - Correspondence Useful/Functional/Not Garbage

The correspondence tab in the Workbench is an utter failure at providing accurate date and cannot be trusted at all. For example, I just asked it to show me all correspondence for 12-22-2020 through 01-20-2021 and it showed me 28 mailings (for 16 total different applications/dates). In reviewing the email address at our firm that receives eOffice Actions, I found that during that same time frame, our firm received *125*... more »

Attorney Docket # - Multiple Changes at Once

When clients move from firm to firm, their portfolios get assigned different Attorney Docket #s. Firms leveraging technology may find incorrect Attorney Docket #s to be hurdles to completing tasks.

It is awesome to be able to update an Attorney Docket # through Patent Center and Private PAIR when the practitioner's customer number is the Correspondence Address, however, this is currently done one at a time. It would... more »

Save Preferences when Customizing Columns

When in the View Correspondence area of the Workbench, you can click the ellipsis to get a Customize Columns pop-up. One of the columns you can add is "Viewed By," which we like to view in order to track what needs to be reviewed daily. However, after clicking on an application number and returning to View Correspondence, it does not save the setting - you have to click on the ellipsis again and check off the appropriate... more »

Miscellaneous

Document sorted in the Image File Wrapper

We have had an issue recently where the way documents were uploaded is distorted. The result is we are receiving Notice to File Corrected Application Papers for new applications that are complete. I included this by way of an example but I think there are other errors that happen as a result of the way uploaded documents are cataloged. Does anyone else have issues with this?

Login Ineffective

We are finding more and more that there is a glitch that results in logins being ineffective, i.e., the login is not rejected, but Patent Center acts like it didn't happen. Specifically, the user is not shown the Workbench or any other non-public interfaces--even after they log in. It seems like it usually happens after a successful login and later logout--the non-public interfaces are shown for the initial log in, and... more »

Workbench / Correspondence / PDF

When downloading correspondence from Private PAIR the combined PDF file contains bookmarks in the format

"customerno applicationnumber date typeofdocument."

The equivalent bookmarks in PatentCenter only include date and type of document. That is unfortunate. The PAIR format allows us to parse a larger PDF file and separate it out into different files following our firm's naming convention. Adding the application... more »

Patent Attorney

Downsized View a bit "glitchy" - When I minimize my browser window to half screen, or anything less than full screen, the Application view is quirky and not fully functional. The left navigation menu with "Application Data", "Documents & Transactions," etc. disappears and is no longer accessible. At the bottom, left-right scroll is not available to scroll the entire window. And within the Application Data screen, when... more »

Larger character limit than 50 characters for fillable fields

When filling in any fillable fields in Patent Center's web-based forms, there is a 50 character limit. Some of the companies for which I file applications have company name lengths longer than 50 characters, so I cannot use many of the web fillable forms (ADS, Issue Fee payment forms, etc.) any time I would have to type the company name into these online forms, for example as the Applicant name, or assignee name. Instead,... more »

Inventor names improperly jammed together

The "Application Data" tab in Patentcenter lists the inventor names, each on a separate line. This tab also has a "print" icon that can be used to generate a PDF file with the information from the Application Data tab. The PDF file is named "Bibliographic Data - Application - Patent Center - USPTO". The bug is that when Patentcenter generates the PDF file, it runs two of the inventor names together in the same line. So... more »

Search and download large sets of data

Hi,

I see that there are some changes to Patent Center from the earlier beta version. In the earlier version, there was an option to search applications through customer number, which is not available currently. Even, the customer number field is no longer available at the application data page. I have following recommendations for your consideration:

1. The 'Search by customer number' option should be made available... more »

DOCX Patent Application gets loaded as a reference

One of our listserv members reports: The patent application that I just e-filed in DOCX form gets loaded into the "non-patent literature" section of "display references". The impression that one gets is that the Examiner could cite our own patent application against us to prove that our patent application lacks novelty. See article. This is EBC ticket number 1-718687424.

This is Patentcenter trouble ticket CP43 in the... more »

Downloading IFW is non-intuitive

One of our listserv members reports: Downloading IFW is non-intuitive. A user downloads the IFW in PC by clicking on the box showing the number of documents selected and then selects the type of download. After doing so, however, nothing happens – there is no pop-up message that informs the user a download is in progress or has been initiated, and the download is not indicated by any web browser icon/message. The downloaded... more »
